Portland Marathon 16 Week Training Program
June 25, 2010:
Week One Day Five: 14 mile run
In this week's episode I will focus on five goals that I've encountered in my running years leading up to my marathon experience. These goals are very common among runners of various levels. Goals: 1. "Running My 1st Marathon", 2. "Running to improve my PR", 3. "Running for a Cause", 4. "Health Reasons", 5. "Future Running" What are your goals?
Goal # 5 "Long term running goals" <
Long term running goals:
Of course we all have short term running goals, whether is completing your first 5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon. But what happens next? Is rare for new runners to fall under the "one hit wonder" category, days or weeks after completing your first you will itch to do it all over.
Personally I've tried to stay away from running but it never works. I always find myself back on the road for one reason or another. Anytime I see a runner on the road, a televised sport, cross country or track it reminds me of what I am missing. Today's topic focuses on long term goals. What are your long term goals and how will you get there. I am a strong believer in having long term goals. You need a factor that drives you my goal for example is breaking the 3hr marathon barrier. I know I will not go from a 4:07 marathon to a sub 3 on my first try, but with constant training I know my goal is with in reach.
Make your goal realistic, sure I can't tell you not to shoot for the moon, but know your limitations. Once you know yourself, you'll be able to reach as far as you can both physically and mentally. If running is your passion, setting goals will boost your confidence and keep your running mind synch and rejuvenated.
