In this week's episode I will focus on five goals that I've encountered in my running years leading up to my marathon experience. These goals are very common among runners of various levels. Goals: 1. "Running My 1st Marathon",
2. "Running to improve my PR",
3. "Running for a Cause",
4. "Health Reasons",
5. "Future Running"
What are your goals?

Goal #3 "Running for a Cause"

Running for a cause:

If you always wanted to give back to your community or support a local charity this is a great opportunity to put your passion to work.

If you are looking for a charity to support check with your marathon organization for the most part they  generally have a list of charities they are closely associated with.  Also if you are having difficulties deciding who to raise money for do your research on the mission and vision of all charities you are considering.  If you are not passionate about your charity options then start your own. Maybe you can support your local High School cross country team, set up a scholarship fund.  The possibilities are endless.

Running for a cause also adds a bit of flavor to your training.  I for one felt a sense of accomplishment knowing that my efforts and contributions were making a difference in someone's life.  Although I have to say raising money is not an easy thing, but generally if you ask your friends and families they are willing to open their wallets. In my previous marathon I was able to raise $400 for the leukemia society all in a 5 week period.  Maybe I could have done better, but  raising money is definitely an art.

Running for a cause is a great way to support and give back to your community, but it should not be something you feel obligated to do.  Running for a cause should be a passion.
